What is DDR2 Memory?

DDR2 (Double Data Rate 2 DRAM) was the standard in the memory industry from the mid to late-2000s. The main benefit is speed - it runs its bus at twice the speed of the memory cells it contains. This enables faster bus speeds and higher peak throughputs than older DDR memory. This is achieved at the cost of higher latency. It also consumes less power then DDR.
